Mynachdy is the realisation of a shared dream

We (Doug & Ewan) met over 20 years ago at London Scottish Rugby Club and by chance followed each other to the North West to work and raise families. Over many a midweek beer we talked about finding a somehere on the Llŷn Peninsula in a beautiful location where people could escape the pressures of modern living (and our kids), breath easily and spend quality time together.

We had both always struggled to find a place to stay that ticked all the boxes in terms of open spaces, great views, privacy, log fire, hot showers and comfortable beds! Combined with our experiences of the holiday industry (Ewan – spent years gallivanting the wilds of Africa, North America and the UK as part of creating experiences within the holiday sector) and wellness / physiotherapy (Doug – created Altius Healthcare after working for Sale Sharks, London Wasps, England Rugby and in private practice) we dreamt of creating somewhere that could offer both to guests.

After a long search around the region in summer 2020 we found Mynachdy (or Mynachdy found us) despite the main farmhouse having been empty and gathering dust for a number of years.

We knew there and then this was something special and set about trying to realise our vision armed with masses of enthusiam and effort but very little understanding of what a renovation of an old building involved. So the weekly routine began with 6am starts fueled with coffee and pastries - day one on site attempting to control the concrete breaker was a sight to behold as was filling half a dozen skips by hand with soil and rocks, pulling down ceilings with decades of dust and don't even mention painting the pebbledash!! .

Thankfully we were up for the challenge boosted by Doug's endless supply of 80s hits and pulled in lots of favours from unsuspecting family and friends to help us as well as the support from a fantastic local builder from Tudweiliog who held our hands through every phase. The layout was planned around firstly what we thought would work for our families and friends and secondly because we thought if it worked for us it would work for lots of people we knew.

We feel very proud to be custodians of Mynachdy and hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

The farmhouse has been renovated with sustainability at the heart of our efforts whether  repairing the roof with the original welsh slate tiles, reusing the dug out flooring to provide an insultation layer in the new underfloor heating, restoring the orignal fireplace or recycling the original front door and skirting boards.

The heating and hot water are generated by air source heat pump and extra care taken with how the flooring and walls were insulated.  Most important to us was using the expertise of local people from Tudweiliog that have lived in the region for generations with an intimate understanding of the envornment and landscape.

We are both eternally grateful for the support and kindness we have been shown.
